Context

Out client is Amnesty International Italy, a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. After more than 50 years of groundbreaking achievements, Amnesty International is now embarking on a major process of evolution, to adapt to the dramatic changes in the world we operate in, and to increase the impact of our human rights work.

Role

We are looking for a Senior Head of Communications for Amnesty International Italy. Based in Rome office

He/she will report to Country Director and supervise Press Manager and Head of Digital, Content Officer. At the same time, he/she will build collaborative working relationships with cross-functional business partners, media agencies, online and offline media, the News and Media team at the International Secretariat, Amnesty International staff and activists.

The purpose of the role is to plan and direct a programme of communications activities designed to promote and protect the image of AI as the Italy’s leading human rights organization.
This Communitation Unit manages a culture of effective and coordinated media and PR work across the movement; it oversees brand, media strategy, delivery and targeting of AI message.

The position includes an initial one-year fixed-term contract with prospects for subsequent stabilization.


Main Functions

The role involves, but is not limited to, the following functions:
  1. Define and manage a brand and communications strategy that delivers impact and awareness with Amnesty’s audiences, across a multi-channel programme, to support core business goals.
  2. Undertake crisis media work, analyse risk, drafting media strategies, statements and Q&A ensuring a timely media response to any critical developments.
  3. Supervision of all multi-channel products and media communications to ensure best practice and mitigate against risk.
  4. Media monitoring, analysis, reporting and CRM analysis in order to develop an evidence-based approach to maximize impact and awareness.

Main Responsabilities

In collaboration with co-workers the holder of this position will have these responsibilities:
  1. Build deep relationships with the media and engage with press, bloggers, analyst, influencers, agencies and the general public as a contact person in collaboration with team members.
  2. Craft compelling narratives that articulate differentiated value propositions and drive excitement for inter-trust communications across media, together with core business unit (Activism, Campaigning, Human Rights Education and Lobby).
  3. Manage the media plan around key human rights events (e.g. anniversaries); identify and coach organization spokespeople (including testimonials and right-holders), and prepare them for press briefings and speaking events in collaboration with the Spokesperson Unit.
  4. Work closely with the Spokesperson Unit for all relevant activities.
  5. Work closely with Fundraising colleagues to support non membership campaigns.
  6. Budget responsability

Requirements

  1. Excellent knowledge in promoting a wide range of content on digital and traditional platforms, owned and earned; establishing effective partnerships with media and opinion leaders.
  2. Exceptional knowledge of content distribution landscape, digital and offline business models, stakeholders and supporters Internet/technology space.
  3. Deep understanding of national and international political and human rights trends, full professional proficiency in Italian and English language.
